Year 33 In The HMWS


The 33rd ‘Academic Year’ of the Harrogate Medical Wine Society commences on the first of September 2023.

  • Quality wine events – tastings, gourmet meals and wine tours, will be held at least once every month
  • Tastings will be followed by dinner with wine
  • The Blog will continue to be add-free
  • The Hedonist will be published daily
  • Fine wine will be sourced for Members at trade price

  • November 2023 – Tasting of New Wines Of South Africa
  • December 2023 – Wines Of Kir Yanni, Northern Greece
  • January 2024 – Long Liquid Lunch
  • February 2024
  • March 2024 – Tedeschi Valpolicella tasting
  • April 2024 – Wines of Ukraine Tasting
  • May 2024 – Spring Lunch
  • June 2024 – Wines Of Galicia tasting
  • July 2024 – Wine Tour of Galicia
  • August – Alto Adige – Wines of Elena Walch tasting
  • September – Wine Tour of Azores
  • October – Greek Islands Wine Tour
  • November – Fine Wines of Portugal – tasting/lunch

Increasing costs have compelled the Society to raise the annual membership fee for the first time to £25 per person. Life membership remains at £150 per person. All existing members are cordially invited to renew their membership. The Society welcomes new members of all professions.

September 23 In The HMWS

  • Membership: 64
  • Events: Tasting/dinner – Jeroboams Key Agency Wines with Michael Robins (16), Small Group Tasting & lunch at Oakdale Golf Club (11)
  • Attendance: 23 members (37.7%) attended at least one wine event
  • Wine: 31 cases of wine were sourced for members. 14 bottles bought from The Wine Society for SA tasting
  • The Blog: There were 2979 views by 540 visitors
  • Accounts: Opening balance was £1576.12. Inflows were £2469.99 and expenses were £3343.13. The closing balance is £702.98. Members Credit account holds £1516.08

October 23

  • Membership: 64
  • Events: Wine Tour of South Africa (6 members). Wines of Brazil tasting (17 members)
  • Attendance: 19 members attended at least one wine event (29.69%)
  • Wine: 24 bottles sourced for 3 members
  • The Blog: There were 3293 views by 471 visitors. Blog Posts New Wines Of Brazil & Trimbach Tasting Dinner were published
  • Accounts: Opening balance was £702.98. Inflows were £822.41. Expenses were £1132.12. Closing balance was £393.27. Members Credit Account holds £1473.08. New Wines of South Africa tasting account has £291.10, Kir-Yianni tasting account holds £30 and Galicia Tour account has £600

November 2023

  • Events: Trimbach Tasting/Dinner in York attended by 10 members & 2 guests. “New Wines of South Africa” tasting attended by 19 members
  • Attendance: 19 members attended at least one wine event (30%)
  • Wine: 81 bottles sourced for members

  • Accounts: Club Kitty opening balance was £393.27. Inflows were £1037.32. Expenses were £1049.66. Closing balance is £380.93. Members Credit Account holds £1774.74.
