The next day, the occasion was marked with a dinner dance at the Masonic Hall in Harrogate
They mingled, chatted and sipped Pierre-Gimonnet’s Fleuron Brut 2006 en magnum while The Sinatra Three played soft jazz in the background. The champagne was selected for the occasion by Didier Gimonnet himself last autumn in Cuis, brought back home and lovingly cellared. A Hamon Serano was expertly carved and piled high on a large plate. Flutes were refilled.
Dinner was served at eight. The room were neatly decorated and there were fresh flowers and candles on the tables. Pretty girls in black brought in plates of smoked salmon Caesar salad with pancetta and baskets of fresh bread. Iona Chardonnay 2014 was poured. Then there were the racks of lamb with sauté herb potatoes, thyme and madeira jus. Magnums of La Rioja Alta’s Vina Ardanza 2007 and Warwick Estate Trilogy 2012 were uncorked. Cheese & crackers with Graham’s 20 year old Tawny came after the assiette of puddings – raspberry and hazelnut pavlova, Baileys creme brûlée, dark chocolate and brandy mousse.
Speeches were made, glasses raised and the girls in black, thanked.
The band raised the tempo and the dance floor became a crowded place. They quick-stepped, jived and fox-trotted. “Who needs coffee!” somebody said. More wine was poured – Asti Spumante 2013 this time, and joy and laughter filled the room. The band played on. Again, things were as they used to be – many years ago!
And The Morning After…

“Thank you Bernard but we are thanking you for a fantastic party. You have put such a lot of thought and work into the preparation to ensure it’s success. The result was a fabulous time had by all. Lots of laughter and hugs and kisses too. We all had a ball. The band that Helen organised was just right. Not too loud and the music fitted in with the age range. Also all those beautiful flower arrangements on the tables. As usual Adam gave us a well presented tasty meal, complimented by your delicious choice of wines. It was lovely for Ramani to be recognised for all the support she gives you so modestly which Helen endorsed with a pretty flower arrangement.Wow what a celebration an occasion the members will never forget. Many thanks and lots of love Ann and Charles (Joslin), Harrogate.
