“During a short visit to London last week, managing director Stanislas Thiénot revealed that Thiénot is about to start construction on a first for the Champagne region – a fine wine cellar and Champagne experience in Reims city centre, close to the cathedral. He says they’ve been inspired by the Napa Valley model, where tourism has been an important part of relationship building with wine lovers.” – (Decanter)
He spoke about this project when we visited Thiénot in Reims last November. It was early evening but he gave us a tour of the immaculately clean and orderly winery, talked to us about the House and its future and tasted the Thiénot range with us.
We bought the Cuvée Alain Thiénot from the fantastic 2002 vintage (60% Chardonnay & 40% Pinot Noir) for a tasting in Harrogate (“Chablis & Champagne – Six Of The Best” http://wp.me/PZGnF-1eI ) and Thiénot NV ( 45% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir, 20% Pinot Meunier and containing 20% reserve wine) for this year’s Christmas Lunch with 50 members of the Harrogate Medical Wine Society. Both wines are in the fresh, non-oxidative style.
We will be back in Reims for a Thiénot Grand Champagne Dinner when the new centre opens.
